Wiganer Dave Hilton, owner and Master Baker of the Lancashire Bread House at Burscough, has scooped the SILVER AWARD at the 8th Great British Pie Awards held in Melton Mowbray recently with his unique Steak & Kidney Pudding Pie.


Always a competitive event, this year 816 pies were entered from 132 professional bakers and butchers in the UK. Undergoing a thorough judging process from over 100 top pie experts including TV Chef Andy Bates, food critic Charles Campion, Chef Rachel Green, Dave’s Steak & Kidney Pudding Pie was given the Silver accolade based on a range of criteria, including appearance, texture and taste.


Matthew Callaghan, Chairman of the British Pie Awards, added, “What a year for the Awards – we’ve seen a truly varied and plentiful plethora of pies. The standard of entrants this year was higher than ever before and the Lancashire Bread House’s Steak & Kidney Pudding Pie thoroughly deserved to be awarded this title. Well done!” “Each year we hold the Awards to encourage innovation in pies and I believe we have outdone ourselves this year. I’d like to give my sincere thanks to all involved, including our judges, sponsors, volunteers and of course, all our wonderful pie makers.”

Mince pies will be in the bakery from 9th November.

We're already getting the little beauties ready now, so chances are there might be a few in the shop for you to try!
